My 2015 SDR transmission blew up yesterday and I found a gen 2 motor for sale can I swap a gen 1 to a gen 2?

I’m not aware of any significant differences between the two engines from a mechanical perspective (when the gen.2 was introduced I wasn’t in the market for one so I didn’t pay a lot of attention to the tech details but don’t recall engine changes. Gen.2 was more about styling and electronics as far as I can recall).
Would you just want to do a straight swap, plug and play with the newer motor, or would you consider splitting them both and swapping the gearboxes? Were you to do the swap you could take your time to repair the original engine, learning heaps in the process, and sell it on afterwards.
